A routine cleaning and checkup does more than polish your teeth — it's the appointment most likely to catch a problem while it's still small and inexpensive to treat. Professional cleaning targets the hardened tartar that toothbrushes simply can't remove, particularly in the pockets around each tooth. The dentist's exam that follows checks for cavities, gum disease, and early signs of issues like enamel wear or oral cancer.
Bitewing X-rays catch cavities forming between teeth long before they'd be visible or symptomatic. Twice-yearly visits are recommended because tartar begins reforming within months of a cleaning, even with good home care.
Skipping a cleaning doesn't just risk cavities — hardened tartar left in place is what eventually leads to the gum recession and bone loss seen in advanced periodontal disease. A cleaning today is a fraction of the cost and discomfort of periodontal treatment down the line.
Pocket depths around each tooth are measured to catch early gum disease before it progresses.
Modern digital sensors use significantly less radiation than older film X-rays.
A visual and physical screening for early signs of oral cancer is part of every standard exam.
Fluoride treatments and sealants can often be applied the same day as your cleaning.
Whatever the specifics of your case, the specialist you reach through us has handled it before.
